xmas gifted, #4.

After gaining the idea from my friend Amy, I decided to make some plant terrariums for my Mum and sister-in-law for Christmas gifts. Let me tell you, it seemed simple, but was actually quite difficult to get everything lined up and planted nicely in our little glass tins.

Mackenzie, ever the helpful friend, made 2, as did I, and we crossed our fingers that all would work since we never managed to find horticultural charcoal so we just did without.

Some supplies you’ll need:

glass jars with seal tops (we used versions of kitchen canisters), mosses and dwarfed planets like ferns that will not be too large for planting in your tin, orchid bark, horticultural charcoal (a must? not sure!), gravel or river rocks, potting soil, chop sticks for manipulating the plants down in, and a spray bottle for misting water.

You can follow instructions we used from Martha Stewart.

Next time, I might opt for the succulent version in a bowl. The terrariums are still alive and ticking.

Fingers crossed.
