"I’m never gonna get used to the 31st century. Caffeinated bacon? Baconated grapefruit?"
After mentioning earlier I thought that Maple Oat Bread would add a delicious bite to a B.L.T., I decided to give it a whirl. And boy. Oh boy.Tonight's dinner was what I have no coined the "A bit of Maple Syrup BLT" because I had an overstuffed lunch and thought just a sandwich for dinner would suffice after I realized the fullness wore off enough to not afford me the chance to skip supping. The hint of maple syrup in the Maple Oat Bread really does a number on the BLT; I mean, most people enjoy dipping their morning slices o' pork in the Vermont-famous sugary stuff anyways, so why not the sammy, too? While I technically gave up the pork a couple years ago, I opt for this amazing Applewood Smoked Turkey Bacon from some delicious farm, and it's just as tasty, and quite frankly, a lower fat health option for those who need it. However, health consciousness is clearly not my bent with this B.L.T. since it had heaping amounts of mayo, and not that Miracle Whip crap, but the real deal. Cue the watering mouths. For good measure, if you want to try this up, I suggest a bunch of Boston lettuce leaves and kosher salting the tomatoes before you add them on the sandwich (note: I like to use grape tomatoes sometimes in winter because they have more flavor than the vine ripe); it gives off extra flavor and I'm a huge salt lover, so that's that for reasoning. Might I suggest if you want something a bit heartier, you try a take I discovered back in college--adding melted American cheese. Sounds strange, yields SERIOUS pleasure...just ask my Mum, I've made it this way for her a million times over.Or opt for the regular ol' B.L.T. I don't mind. But you'll surely be a twee more displeased than all us maple converts.File Under: Yummy Goodness, but grab for extra napkins. I found it a bit sloppy.
