deciphering, 9.14

Japanese patterns look so beautifully written. There are these gorgeous charts for crochet, which I wish existed more in American patterns. There are never enough crochet charts, in my humble opinion.I've decided to take to trying to follow this pattern, despite not knowing a lick of Japanese.
